The popularity of chess in Sweden has never been greater! With 43,000 members, of which 88 percent are under 25 years old, the Swedish Chess Federation is one of the country's fastest-growing federations. Chess is now played not only on the board but also online, where over 500,000 Swedes are active. We are in an expansion phase and are looking for someone who can help us further develop chess in Sweden.

Do you want to be our new Secretary General?

We see great opportunities to continue growing within school chess, but also to attract online players to organize themselves into clubs. The federation already has an extensive operation in schools across Sweden and organizes the world's largest chess competition, Schackfyran. School teams also compete in Yes2Chess online. The federation conducts competitive chess with a national league series, organizes the Swedish Championship, and is responsible for national teams and the development of new elite players. An important step was taken in 2023 when the federation was elected to RF-SISU and has since become part of the sports family.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Your role will primarily focus on marketing and sales, in addition to leading the organization, but your task is also to work with the rest of Swedish chess to develop chess as a whole. You will report to the federation's chairman and participate as a presenter at board meetings.

Your workplace will be the federation's office in Uppsala. The office consists of 13 employees, including those responsible for finance, member services, school chess, and competitive chess. In addition, Swedish chess consists of 23 districts and about 2000 clubs, where you will be an important coordinating force.

MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Overall responsibility for the office and the federation's operations in collaboration with the federation board

• Management, budget, and planning responsibility for the federation's activities

• Work with strategic goals and development issues

• Responsibility for contact with companies and dialogue with district and club leaders

• Follow-up and coordination of project groups and committees

• Ensure the federation's financing and develop collaborations with companies and organizations

YOUR EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with experience in some form of leadership position, preferably within non-profit organizations or the sports movement. Experience in financial responsibility, sales, marketing, and digitalization is highly meritorious, as is experience from the business world or the education sector. To fit the role of Secretary General, we believe you are a business-driven marketer who sees development opportunities and is driven by networking. As a person, you are a team player with openness to differences. You have a high level of engagement, take responsibility, and are proactive. You have good collaboration skills and enjoy working in a leadership position and have the ability to inspire employees and partners. Good computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office or equivalent are required. However, you do not need to be a chess player, but we hope you share our belief in the positive effects of chess on learning, logical thinking, and community for both children and adults.
